The blue crab is a species native to the western Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. This beautiful sea animal is the most common edible crab on the Gulf coast. The blue crab is super important to our economy – and our hungry bellies – in the United States!
Brown, white, and pink shrimp are all common to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and collectively known as Gulf shrimp. These common Gulf of Mexico shrimps are a popular delicacy on the Gulf Coast as well as across the United States.
Hermit crabs can be found all along the shorelines of the Gulf of Mexico. These are nocturnal animals that spend their days hiding buried in sand or in driftwood. Sometimes, they will even pop our of their shell to say hi!
